Mr. Knightly

Mr. Knightley in my chicken coop? See what you think…

Mr Knightly2

This rooster is such a gentle one. He seems to care about the other hens and chicks. I’ve never seen him get in a squabble and every time I look at him the name Knightley comes to mind…hence Mr. Knightley. Partially because of his personality, and partially because he is black like the sky at night.

Mr 2

Now don’t you think he looks debonaire? Kind of like this Mr. Knightley character…

Just kidding… 🙂

He does have  an attachment to one of the young hens and they hang out together…I find this unusual…

the couple

You can see them standing together in the top left of the photo above.  Perhaps I should name her Emma???

I’m always trying to capture pictures of squabbling chickens, so here are a few…

squabble

This guy is a trouble maker, but Attila the Hen will take care of him…

encounter

She steps up and  there he goes…

encounter 2

Amazing how much excitement there can be in the barn yard…

    • I saw my first one of those yesterday…kind of scary. I threw water on the two roosters to get them to quit, but one of them is limping today. Three of the roosters have to go very soon, like this weekend!

  1. How sweet, I love a gentle rooster!
Is the hen he paired up with a sibling? We had that happen with two chicks that hatched together. For ages they were inseparable, until she started laying and opted to hang out with the other girls 🙂 And he wasn’t a nice boy like yours, so he ended up in the pot!
I also love chicken action shots. Go boss hen! 🙂

    • 🙂 Yes…they are siblings…it will be interesting to see how this all pans out… I’m really hoping now that we butchered the other 3 roosters that the head rooster will continue to be nice to Mr. Knightley.
