Planting Peas Perfectly

She asked me, “How can I help?”

I said, “Would you like to plant the peas?”

She said, “How far apart?”

I read the package and replied, “From 1 to 4 inches.”

She planted the peas perfectly…

peasShe’ll be 96 years old in June…

    • You probably will 🙂 I think I have some from my mom, but not all. She’s 31 years older than me, and I know that 31 years ago she was probably in better shape than I am now. I’m thankful that I’m as healthy as I am, and I’m thankful to her for that. 🙂

  1. It must be nice to share gardening with eachother. It is great exercise. The only thing that is missing is great music blarring in the distance. Lemonade or ice tea for refreshment afterwards as you sit and admire your work. It looks like great weather.Your mom looks great. She has sure kept her figure.

    • She has kept her figure, for sure!!! She still looks amazing in a bathing suit, and she still swims. 🙂 You think it’s because she’s Swedish??? Actually, we have coffee in the afternoon almost every day and she eats a cinnamon roll, or cookies, or cake. I only drink the coffee… black. She says in Sweden it would be very rude not to offer goodies with your coffee. I hope it’s not rude not to eat sweets… 🙂

      • I am glad to hear that she is so clear in her head despite having alzheimers. I have to agree that it is her being Swedish that she has such a great figure LOL. Eating 5 small meals a day helps one maintain their figure.

You said that you lived in Gränna, when you were a teenager. It does not surprise me that she kept the Swedish tradition of “Fika” alive in your family. Sweets “lördagsgodis” are usually eaten only on Saturdays.

  2. Hi Shadowlily…. Please tell this dear lady ‘YOU glow girl!’…. she has my total admiration…. In my search for natural health alternatives, I have learned that the human body is designed to live a minimum of 120 years…This being attributed to the genetics of humanity as a whole, not just certain families…

Maybe someday, this girl would be willing to give your blogging community an outline of how and what she eats, her activity over her life time…. Anything she may credit for longevity…. Thank you so much for this post, I am inspired….. Deb

    • I will definitely tell her what you said, and I think her secret to longevity is exactly that… Go, go, go…This lady won’t stop. 🙂 She says they used to call her Go, go, Gerdie… Her name is Gerd, short for Ingegerd, which is Swedish. She will also tell you that she has all her own teeth, except a few that are missing, and that her eye sight is perfect, which it is. She can read the small print on medicine bottles and phone books…Amazing! She would tell you that she has never smoked, doesn’t drink, except for wine occasionally. She eats sugar and sweets. I think part of her health is due to denial…she always insists that nothing is wrong with her, even though she does have spinal stenosis and some dementia. She used to swim 3 days a week and we are trying to find a place where she can resume that activity. Thank you for your comment. I’m sure you will make her day, when I tell her what you said. 🙂

    • Here is a rough outline for Grandma’s day, Deb.

Wake up between 6 and 7. Start the coffee maker. Turn on the news. Sit and watch the news and drink coffee.

      Oatmeal.

      Shower.

Coffee and a wasa cracker with butter.

      Cutie.

      Check the laundry.

      Wasa cracker with butter.

Go for a 15 minute walk.

Wasa with cheese and butter and a cutie.

      Lie down for 20 minutes.

Another wasa cracker and butter. Some chocolate if she can find it.

2 o’clock coffee with whoever will come over. ALWAYS served with a sweet of some kind. VERY rude not to serve cookies or cinnamon rolls or something.

      Another period of restlessness.

      Wasa cracker and butter.

      Dinner.

      Another cutie.

      A movie.

      Bed.

      10:30 glass of milk.

      Start the day over.

      🙂 🙂 🙂

      • Thanks so much for this!… From what I can gather ‘Go Go Gerdie’ is that she COMPLETELY uses her caloric intake before she eats again…. In a nutshell, Go Go is a Grazer!…. With only one meal a day, Go Go is actually practicing ‘intermittent fasting’,…. I believe that her eating method is supportive of the theory of longevity by intermittent fasting. … This is so great, please tell her to NOT change a thing!…. Lotsa Love, Deb

  3. This is such a great post! I love that your mom is in the garden with you! What an amazing lady! Thank-you for sharing this and her secrets to longevity 🙂 My Auntie Kay is going to be 93 and also blessed with “having nothing wrong with her” and that is exactly what she says too!
